The EU has suggested that member states should consider mandatory vaccination. I think some states such as Austria and France had policies which were close to mandatory vaccination. Thank goodness the UK did not go down that path. I would be appalled if that happened here (UK).

Thanks for your excellent article.

Ah, yes. There is some movement on the Continent. Just last week the "hard left" and the "far right" came together in France's National Assembly to defeat the latest vaccine passport initiative to come out of Macron's government.

Isn't that how politics should be?: Let competing factions cut deals with each other when they can agree and get back to opposing each other when they can't. Easy.

Really great article that touches a lot of sore points. The UK colonies certainly have suffered a lot of freedom losses in this pandemic that people are starting to awaken to awful leadership. It seems to take time for the masses to see what's happening. In the US the contrasts between red/blue states clearly showed policy matters. Whether that is pointing to a real change remains to be seen. Clearly the promises of the novel mRNA platform haven't arrived and a deep dive into why has yet to happen.

I hope the 2022 elections turn out to be like the 1932 elections or elections in the late 1850's. The latter marked the destruction of one of the two major parties (the Whigs), a resorting, and the emergence of a new, dynamic party (the Republicans). And perhaps the not-so-dynamic Republican party of today might also change for the better. One can only hope ...

We can wish for a reformation of the parties. The Democrats have been taken over by progressives who have a bad habit of eating their own. They rejected Gabbard and Wang who were quite reasonable people but would not toe the line. The Republicans have done better but Trump has been badly injured by himself. At least they have a few solid candidates after Trump that can adopt moderate conservative positions. I doubt the midterms, if honest, will be an adequate wake-up for the Democrats but a Republican sweep will handcuff Biden who clearly can never run again. Whether any of his cabinet can survive that along with their general incompetence remains unclear.
